Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has joined the nation in mourning the tragic loss of Cedric Babu Ndilima the celebrated media personality, sports administrator, and Vice Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) who passed away on May 31, 2025 in Nairobi after a battle with heart failure .  

In an emotional statement shared on his official social media platforms, Gen. Muhoozi described Babu as a selfless patriot, dynamic leader, and dear friend who dedicated his life to Uganda’s progress.

Cedric Babu Ndilima, a revered Ugandan media personality, sports administrator, and political figure, has passed away at the age of 46 following complications from a severe heart condition. He died at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, where he had been receiving intensive care after collapsing at a tennis tournament in Kigali, Rwanda, last month 12.

Babu’s health struggles came to light in May when he collapsed while accompanying his son, Cillian Asante Ndilima, at a tennis event in Rwanda. He was airlifted to Nairobi, where doctors diagnosed him with severe heart failure and recommended an urgent transplant—his only hope for survival 25.

Mukono District has kicked off an intensive national ID registration exercise, targeting 7,240 residents in the first phase. The Uganda National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) initiative saw long queues at Kauga village registration center, where locals followed numbered protocols to maintain order.  

A stolen Toyota Fielder was recovered within a day in Mukono thanks to Uganda's Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS), demonstrating the technology's growing impact on public safety. The integrated tracking system - combining GPS, automatic number plate recognition, and real-time analytics - enabled police to locate the vehicle at precise coordinates after its theft from Buloba was reported.  

Uganda's National Identification and Registration Authority has introduced an online platform for national ID applications and renewals, with physical verification required for biometric data capture. The system accommodates both new applicants and those renewing IDs expiring June 2025, requiring presentation of application IDs at designated centers for fingerprint and iris scans.
