An elephant killed a local farmer in Kayanja one village, Rugendabara Perish, kitswamba Sub County of Kasese district.
The deceased has been identified as Osbert Nuwamanya a resident of Bigando village Kitswamba Sub County whose lifeless body was discovered by his friend Obed Turyasingura who survives death after taking off into the bush.
According to Obed Turyasingura, the deceased met his death at around 10pm while trying to make an alarm of chasing against the elephant that escaped from Kibale national park.
Residents said the two Uganda wildlife authority officers who were given to them to guard their villages have not been helping them at all because the area its bigger than them.
These requested the government to extend the electricity fence from queen Elizabeth national park to Kibale National park to avoid such incidents happening again.
The area councillor representing Rugendabara perish to the sub county, Hon. Bridget Mure said the deceased has been a farmer in kayanja village for many years.
She added that the elephant’s problems have been a big challenge to them as farmers, saying Uganda wildlife authority has never intervened.
He calls on the government to look into the wildlife act because the community living around the national park have counted a lot of loss several times, adding that UWA should composite the family of the deceased.
Speaking to the public relation officer, Uganda wildlife authority, Hangi Bashir confirmed the incident, saying the elephant escaped from Kibale National park and met the deceased in his garden while trying to gurd his Garden.
He added that as uganda wildlife authority their trying hard to put measures of preventing human wildlife conflict.
