Parents and caretakers of children with sickle cells have requested the for government intervention.
Benard Ssembatya, one of the parents whose child has sickle cells says that they face a lot of challenges including finding the medication, in Uganda, 240000 children are born with sickle cells every year and 50-80 percent die before the age of five. Sickle cells in Uganda are mostly detected in the northern, central and eastern part of Uganda.
The director of of Uganda sickle cell rescue foundation,Daniel Our advises the government to come out and build facilities and health centres of people with sickle cells instead of mixing them with other patients.
Tracy Nagawa, an official in this organisation says that they are planning on putting up a medical facility that can deal with transplants of fluids but the government has not yet passed the law concerning legal and ethical aspects of organ donation and transplantation which has slowed down the process.
