Rising Teenage Pregnancies In Koome-Mukono District, are Concerning

Rising teenage pregnancies in Kakunyu village, Lubembe parish, Koome sub-county, Mukono District, cause concern.

A rising number of teenage pregnancies is causing significant fear among residents of Kakunyu village, located in Lubembe parish, Koome sub-county, within the Mukono District. The community is deeply concerned about the growing rate of underage pregnancies in the area.

Ronald Ssekibule, the Deputy Chairperson of the sub-county, has publicly stated that they urgently require legal support to effectively combat this widespread problem that is severely affecting the islands.

This issue was a central point of discussion during a community meeting that included the area's Member of Parliament, Honourable Fred Kayondo. The meeting was part of his "Village Parliament" outreach initiative, a program designed to visit various parts of the constituency, listen to the people's problems, and help find solutions.

During the session, residents of Kakunyu and surrounding areas seized the opportunity to directly appeal to the MP. They highlighted their severe lack of healthcare facilities and requested his assistance in addressing this critical need, which they identified as a major challenge across the islands.

In a related development, Hon. Kayondo also visited Kakunyu and Kakkulukulu, where he criticised the government for its failure to clear the water hyacinth from Lake Victoria. This invasive weed has severely disrupted the livelihoods of local fishermen. He urged the government to provide fishermen with the necessary equipment to manage the weed themselves.

Furthermore, during his interactions, the MP commended the local council officials for their work and pledged to extend his efforts in serving the people of Koome.
