As Uganda joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8, women across the country used the occasion to highlight challenges they face in accessing funds from government empowerment programs, particularly the GROW initiative. The celebrations, held in Kyankwanzi District, were graced by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the chief guest, alongside other dignitaries.

Mbale City, Uganda – The Minister of Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi, has issued a stern warning to Mbale City leadership against the illegal sale of government land. During his official visit to the city, the Minister emphasized the critical need to protect public land, which he described as a vital resource for future development projects.  

As the world celebrated International Women’s Day, Uganda was no exception. In Mukono District, Salt Media visited the bustling Namawojolo Market to speak with women who make a living selling roasted gonja (plantains) and other small businesses. These women shared their stories of resilience, challenges, and triumphs in a demanding yet rewarding trade.

Residents of Kawami Village in Kalamba, Butambala District, have expressed mixed feelings about the ongoing stone quarry project by Kawami Stone Quarry Limited. While the project is expected to boost infrastructure development in the region, locals are concerned about its impact on their community and have called for improved road networks as a priority.
