Bunyangabu Concludes Parliamentary Nominations, Candidates Pledge to Tackle Local Issues

The Electoral Commission in Bunyangabu district closed the nomination period for parliamentary candidates, with a total of eight aspirants after three additional nominations on the final day.

The Electoral Commission in Bunyangabu district has successfully closed the nomination period for parliamentary candidates, concluding a two-day process filled with political anticipation. On this final day, three additional candidates were nominated, bringing the total number of aspirants to eight after five were approved on the first day.

Overseeing the exercise, the Bunyangabu District Returning Officer, Mr. David Nuwamanya, instructed the duly nominated candidates to submit drafts of their campaign programs for a proper review by the commission. The candidates, in their addresses, revealed that a shared concern over pressing local issues propelled them into the race. They specifically cited significant gaps in service delivery, critically high youth unemployment rates, and massive corruption within the area as their primary motivations.

A common pledge among the contenders is a focused effort to improve the agricultural sector, with particular emphasis on boosting banana production in the district. To ensure a harmonious campaign season, Returning Officer David Nuwamanya called upon all candidates to strictly follow the Electoral Commission's guidelines. He explicitly urged them to avoid using abusive language against their opponents, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful and issue-based electoral process.
