Fishermen on Lake Albert in Kikuube District, Bunyoro, have appealed to the government to end a continued harassment and unfair treatment.
The fishermen have denied allegations that they are involved in illegal fishing practices, including the use of prohibited fishing gears that deplete fish stocks.
Godwin Angaliya, the Resident District Commissioner, met with the fishermen to discuss measures aimed at eliminating illegal fishing while addressing their concerns.
John Kibulala, the Kikuube District fisheries officer, unveiled coordination activities in the fishing communities.
Richard Kagoro, one of the fishermen, urged authorities to expedite the implementation of the newly elected leadership structure to restore beach management units.
Lake Albert has five major landing sites, along with several smaller ones, which support thousands of people engaged in fishing and related economic activities.
