Mubende Traders Seek Clarification from PM Nabbanja over Trader Order

More than 200 traders from Mubende have resolved to seek the intervention of Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja over what they describe as unfair treatment following their eviction from their longtime place of business in Mubende Municipality.

The traders met the Prime Minister in Kakumiro, where she was attending official duties, and appealed for her help. They argued that it was unjust to remove them from the area where they have conducted business for years.

While acknowledging that the government constructed a modern market to relocate vendors from the streets, the traders said many of the market stalls were allocated to people who could afford to purchase them, leaving others without space to operate.

The traders vowed not to leave the Prime Minister's residence without a response, insisting that, as the head of government business, she should address the concerns arising from the eviction.

In response, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja urged the traders not to return to trading on the streets, saying the government's intention is to improve their livelihoods rather than subject them to hardship.

The Prime Minister Nabbanja also contacted the Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, and briefed him on the traders' concerns.

She raised complaints that taxis had been barred from stopping near the Highway Market, a situation the traders say has reduced customer access and affected their daily sales.
